Pompeii never ceases to amaze us: this year the grape harvest took place in the most beautiful archaeological site in the world with the cutting of grapes in the vineyards of the summer triclinium. An event that has been repeated since 1994 in a small area of the excavations, thanks to an agreement between the Pompeii Archaeological Park and the well-known wine company Mastroberardino, which takes care of the vineyards and produces the fine wine “Villa dei Misteri“. The wine, created with piedirosso grapes and sciascinoso, is unique and particular because it is made with the viticulture techniques used by the ancient Romans over 2000 years ago.
This is a different way to make Pompeii known in the world together with its stories and its ancient culture. From the areas treated today to vineyards we get just over 30 quintals of grapes; the land are located in the regions I and II and extend over an area of just over one hectare distributed over 15 different plots of land.
