“May of Monuments” is a cultural series of events that takes place mainly in the historic center of Naples, during the month of May, and which includes guided tours, concerts, theatrical activities, exhibitions and initiatives, organized around a key theme, identified every year by the municipal administration.
The theme of this year is “Giordano Bruno 20/20: the vision beyond disasters“.
This edition is dedicated to Giordano Bruno, modern, eclectic thinker, author of countless scientific, theological and philosophical theses, which so deeply disturbed the Catholic orthodoxy that the Inquisition court sentenced him to be burned at the stake, after endless trials and hearings, during which Bruno chose never to retract any of his beliefs.
This year’s edition takes place online, on the social channels of the Department, with the daily program called #NONFERMIAMOLACULTURA, which in less than two months has reached about 2 and a half million views and the participation of hundreds of artists and characters of the world of culture.
The historic Neapolitan cultural event ‘May of Monuments’ by the Department of Culture and Tourism takes place this year from 2 to May 31, according to the new modalities dictated by the Covid-19 emergency, on the social channels of the City Council for Tourism.

For May of Monuments the novelty is the setting of the cultural contributions in the monumental places of the city, known and lesser known, in the churches, cloisters, historical theatres, clearly without public and respecting the current safety standards: the Charterhouse and Museum of San Martino, the Ancient Roman Theater at Anticaglia, the Courtyard of the Statues in via Paladino, the Convent of San Domenico Maggiore, the Church of San Severo al Pendino in via Duomo, the Monumental Complex Real Casa della SS. Annunziata, the Astronomical Observatory of Capodimonte, the Fontanelle Cemetery, the Maschio Angioino, the Railway Museum of Pietrarsa, the Filangieri Museum, the Piazza Forcella Municipal Space, are just some of the places that have joined the project making themselves available to open. The temples of culture but also lesser known little jewels are filled with artists and performers who, alone, perform for the public connected online.
