Exhibition Pompei e l’Europa 1748-1943

by DN press office / Wednesday, 04 November 2015 / Published in News

An exhibition that evokes the history of the Vesuvian city in a constant comparison between the art and the excavations, a dialogue between archaeologists, art historians, architecture and literature, called to tell the rediscovery of Pompeii.

The exhibition, placed in a wooden pyramid structure, designed by Francesco Venezia within the ‘amphitheater, evokes the history of Pompeii excavations beginning in 1748 until the dramatic bombing of 1943.

It consists of 20 casts of the victims eruption, restored and never exposed to the public, around which are placed a selection of shots and images in black and white of Pompeii, many unpublished, which testify to the progress of the excavations between the 19th and the 20th century. A real journey in which the ancient communicates with the modern times, and nature with the arts and archeology.
